This story is an amalgamation of my truth and some embellished events and characters. I am sharing my second draft. I had a completed manuscript I sent for editing about a year ago. My editor suggested that I change the POV of the main character which is a beast of a task. I’m glad she did because Jim Rodella has become my family. Writing is a test of the soul, and I want to share the story that has burned a hole in my heart for twenty years.
Synopsis:
- In the summer of 1975, four people cling to one another while facing grief, heartbreak, mental illness, and trying to understand that the decisions we make cannot be undone.
- Jim lives next door to Marian. He is gay and has a penchant for dressing in drag. He lives with his eclectic sister, Gisella who escapes with eating and taking care of her bees. Jim and Gisella use humor to heal. Marian lives next door with her 6-year-old daughter, Chloe. Marian lives in a Valium haze and struggles with parenting, faith, and a failing marriage.
